Good Works for Christ
Ephesians 2:8-10
"For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- not by works, so that no-one can boast. For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do."
This passage indicates that God, in His Sovereign Will, has pre-ordained good works for us to do. The only thing preventing these works being brought to fruition is our availability and obedience to do what God calls us to. Make no mistake about it, the good works are not guaranteed. They will not automatically occur! A good illustration of this can be found in Joshua 1:2-6 where God gives final instructions to His people concerning the land He has promised to them.
Joshua 1:2-4
"Moses my servant is dead. Now then, you (Joshua) and all these people, get ready to cross the Jordan River into the land I am about to give to them--to the Israelites. I will give you every place where you set your foot, as I promised Moses. Your territory will extend from the desert to Lebanon, and from the great river, the Euphrates--all the Hittite country-- to the Great Sea on the west."
God promised the Israelites a large parcel of land, but He also required them to go in and conquer the land. All they had to do was step foot on every part of the land God promised! But because of their disobedience, they ended up claiming only a tenth of the land God promised them. How many good works, which God has already prepared for you to do, will you end up claiming? Only you can decide that!
