And aptly so, for God's Word, which Christ described as spirit and life, provides the spiritual nutrients upon which our spirit feeds and grows. The following study will help you to feast upon God's Word and absorb its Truths in order to increase your Faith and strengthen your spiritual walk.

God's Word
Why do we call the Bible the Word of God? Because it is! How can we know? Consider the following: The Bible claims to be God's Word. The fulfillment of Biblical prophecy point to its supernatural origin. The Creation and Flood accounts in the book of Genesis both have significant scientific support. Historical accounts of individuals and peoples are constantly being verified through archaeological findings. The message of Salvation by Faith in Christ's death and resurrection for the forgiveness of sins is unsurpassed in its simplicity and eloquence, indicating a wisdom beyond Man's. The incredible feat of 40 authors, writing 66 books over a span of 1500 years, yet in complete harmony, begs for a supernatural source for Scripture. Finally, Christ's affirmation that the Word is eternal provides His witness as to the identity of the true Author.
2 Timothy 3:16-17 explains God's Purpose in giving us His written Word. In it, the Apostle Paul reduces God's Purpose to four words. Teaching, Rebuking, Correcting and Training. And the end result? ... That we might be "thoroughly equipped for every good work." Those who describe the Bible as a Users Manual for Life have pretty much hit the nail with their heads! The Bible is God's Manual to prepare us, not just for this life, but more importantly, the one that awaits us in His eternity.

Reading God's Word
The best way to make use of the Bible is to Read It! Of course! Isn't that obvious? Perhaps ... but not to all. Some use their Bibles as paper weights, others as flower presses and many others as dust collectors! We do (or don't do) all kinds of things with our Bibles except the obvious ... read it! There is no short cut to using the Bible. It must be read ... the more the better.
But consider the various translations available to us as each has an advantage and disadvantage. Also consider setting aside a specific time to read it lest this indispensable habit be crushed by the tyranny of the urgent. And don't forget to turn off that television or pager, and remove any distraction, actual or potential, that will keep you from focusing completely on the Word before you!
