Love translates the greek word agape which in Scripture is used to describe Love between God and Man, Love between People and Love for material things.
The word, agape, by itself, is not specific to God's Love, but was used in classical greek as a generic word for love acting as a synonym for two other words translated by the english Love: phileo (affection for a friend) and eros (desire between a man and woman). However, in the context of Scripture, and especially when the word is used in relation to God and Christ, agape has come to mean Love that mirrors the values and priorities of the Divine with actions befitting them. It expresses a Love that is unconditional, sacrificial and eternal. 1Corinthians 13:4-7
